Soap Bar Product Info

Below is a list of ingredients typically used in my handmade Artisan Soap Bar! With each ingredient listed, you'll also be able to read about the ingredient itself, and why I decided to include it in my product! At the end, there's a list of various additives included in specific soap bars such as Colloidal Oatmeal or Honey!

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is a liquid oil extracted from the fruit of the olive tree. It is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and oleic acid (an omega-9 fatty acid that reduces skin sensitivity and hydrates the skin). Olive Oil contributes hydrating, moisturizing, and conditioning benefits to the soap bar!

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is a semi-liquid oil pressed from the meat found inside coconuts. Coconut Oil is great for hydration, as it helps retain skin moisture. However, in Cold Processed Soap, Coconut Oil contributes major cleansing benefits to the soap bar! It also helps create a beautiful bubbly lather, along with hardening the bar. Coconut Oil also helps to reduce inflammation, hydrate the skin, and increase collagen production!

Palm Oil

Palm Oil comes from the fruit of the palm tree. This oil is well-rounded in soap, as it creates a firm bar with a stable lather, while also contributing a fair amount of cleansing and conditioning benefits! While the use of Palm Oil can be a bit controversial, Queens Destiny ensures the use of Sustainably Sourced Palm Oil to prevent deforestation, protect endangered species, and reduce carbon emissions!

Castor Oil

Castor Oil is a thick liquid oil made from the seeds of the castor plant. This oil has been used for centuries for its skin benefits! In soap, Castor Oil is great for moisturizing the skin, and it also creates a rich, fluffy later that mildly cleanses and conditions the skin!

Cocoa, Kokum, and Shea Butter

I included all 3 of these butters in my soap formula for their moisturizing and nourishing benefits! They also make for a firmer bar, which boosts the longevity of the soap bar! Cocoa Butter is a vegetable fat derived from cocoa beans, while Kokum and Shea Butter come from the kernels or seeds of the Kokum and Shea tree!

Water/Aloe Vera Juice

In soap making, there must be a liquid to act as a 'vehicle' for the Sodium Hydroxide (Lye). Water is most commonly used, but other liquids such as Aloe Vera Juice, Coffee, Beer, and Coconut Water may also be used! In my soap bars. I use both Water and Aloe Vera Juice, as Aloe Vera Juice contributes many benefits to the skin such as restoring moisture and relieving skin inflammation. Specific soap bars may use different liquids, such as coffee in the Coffee Bean Artisan Soap Bar!

Lye

Sodium Hydroxide, also known as Lye, is an inorganic compound with the formula NaOH. Although by itself it can be concerning to work with, Lye is absolutely necessary when making soap. This ingredient is what transforms simple oils and butters into a unique and beautiful soap bar! When Lye is mixed with various oils and butters, it triggers a chemical process called "Saponification". This causes the mixture to heat up, breaking down the oils/butters and neutralizing the lye. Once saponification is over, there is no Lye in the final product and you are left with soap! The soap is then cut into bars and goes through a curing process where the soap bars release water, allowing them to become firm!

Salt/Sugar

We all know what Salt and Sugar are, but why are they in soap? Salt in cold processed soap helps create a firm bar, while sugar creates a boost in lather!

Additives

Additives are special ingredients that contribute unique benefits to soap bars!

Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal Oatmeal is a finely ground powder made from oat kernels. It has been known to soothe skin conditions such as eczema! In soap, it soothes and moisturizes the skin, while also providing mild exfoliation!

Honey

We all know Honey as the sweet nectar that is made by bees, but what does it do in soap? Adding honey to a soap recipe will not make it sticky! Similarly to sugar, Honey boosts the lather in your soap bar. Honey is also a natural humectant, which means it attracts moisture to the skin!

Goat's Milk

Goat's Milk has many benefits for the skin; it moistures the skin, nourishes the skin, reduces skin inflammation, and can provide some exfoliation! Goats Milk also supplies Lactic Acid to the recipe, which is great for acne!

Turmeric

Turmeric is commonly known as a spice used for both cooking and skincare. However, turmeric began its journey as a plant root, similar to Ginger Root! Turmeric is great for hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and acne! While most people are more familiar with powdered turmeric, Queens Destiny uses both powdered and fresh turmeric root in our soap recipies!
