Body Cream Product Info

Below you will find a list of ingredients typically used in my handmade Body Cream! With each ingredient listed, you'll also be able to read about the ingredient itself, and why I decided to include it in my product! At the end there's a list of additives that can be added to my Body Cream recipe along with the base ingredients!

Ingredients

Below are a list of the base ingredients that are used to make my handmade Body Cream!

Water/Aloe Vera Juice

When making any kind of cream or lotion, a liquid like Water or Ale Vera Juice must be used to create the emulsion. An Emulsion is a mixture of 2 or more liquids that wouldn't normally mix, such as oil and water! Water and Aloe Vera Juice provide hydration to the skin and make room for beneficial ingredients that may not combine with oil, such as Sodium Lactate or Glycerin!

Sodium Lactate

Sodium Lactate is the sodium salt of Lactic Acid. It is a clear, odorless, and organic humectant derived from the natural fermentation of sugars found in corn and beets. Sodium Lactate is a wonderful humectant, meaning it pulls water from the air into the deeper layers of the skin, providing ample moisture!

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is a natural fat extracted from the nuts of the shea tree. Packed with vitamins A, E, and F, Shea Butter is an excellent moisturizer for the skin. Shea Butter is also a natural emollient, meaning is works to soften the skin and provide moisture!

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter is a natural vegetable fat derived from cocoa seeds. This hard butter is an amazing moisturizer! The fatty acids within the butter create a protective barrier on the skin, which helps to lock in moisture. Since this butter is very firm, it perfectly thickens my body cream to the perfect thickness!

MCT Oil

MCT is short for Medium-Chain Triglycerides. MCT is a saturated fat that is taken either from palm oil or coconut oil. Queen's Destiny uses coconut-sourced MCT Oil, which is wonderful for moisturizing the skin without the heavy, greasy feel that traditional coconut oil has!

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp Seed Oil is a natural oil obtained by pressing hemp seeds. It is great for restoring the skin barrier, while the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the oil help to hydrate the skin! Hemp Seed Oil can also reduce UV damage and hyperpigmentation!

Emulsifiers BTMS-50 & Polysorbate-80

BTMS-50 is a vegan emulsifying wax. This emulsifier allows the water and oil to mix, creating the emulsion! BTMS-50 is a cationic emulsifier, which means it's also conditioning and a great moisturizer! Polysorbate-80 is the other vegan emulsifier used in this formula. It is a nonionic emulsifier, and pairs great with BTMS-50. So you may be asking, why 2 emulsifiers? While BTMS-50 is a great emulsifier, it is quite expensive, and needs to be used in larger percentages in my recipe in order for the Body Cream to be stable. So, I've decided to add Polysorbate-80 to cut back on the the amount of BTMS-50 used, and to ensure that the Body Cream remains stable throughout it's life!

Cetyl Alcohol

Cetyl Alcohol isn't like rubbing alcohol or drinking alcohol. It's a fatty alcohol that is used to stabilize and thicken the emulsion. Sometimes an emulsion can be unstable, meaning the oils and water will begin to separate out of the emulsion. Cetyl Alcohol helps prevent this while also retaining skin moisture!

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E oil is a moisturizing oil that also has antioxidant properties! This means that Vitamin E Oil prevents the oils and butters from oxidizing or going rancid!

Liquid Germal Plus

Liquid Germal Plus is a broad-spectrum preservative. Any emulsion or product that contains water has a risk of growing bacteria, germs, and mold, which can irritate the skin. This preservative protects against germs, mold, and bacteria. It is not at all harmful to the skin and is only used at 1% or less in the Body Creams!

Additives

Additives are special ingredients that contribute fun and unique benefits to the products!

Fragrance Oil

Fragrance Oils are synthetic oils used for the sole purpose of providing a fragrance or scent to the product! You can also use essential oils to scent your product, but they are much more limited in choices.

Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal Oatmeal is a finely ground powder made from oat kernels. It has been known to soothe skin conditions such as eczema! In creams and lotions, Colloidal Oatmeal moisturizes the skin while relieving minor irritations!
